Solution

Coelenterate metagenesis:

  1. The generation of animals and plants of a certain kind can reproduce asexually. Such a phenomenon is called metagenesis.
  2. It is followed by the sexually reproducing generation.
  3. Both the forms are diploid in metagenesis hence, it is the false alternation of generation.
  4. Coelenterates exhibit metagenesis (e.g., Obelia) where polyp form alternates with the medusa in its life cycle.
  5. Polyps produce medusae asexually and medusae produce polyps sexually.
