Question

What is competitive inhibition ? Compare it with allosteric inhibition.

Open in App
Solution

A competitive inhibitor competes with substrate for binding to an active site. When the inhibitor occupies the active site, it forms an enzyme-inhibitor complex and the enzyme cannot react until the inhibitor dissociates and such process is called as competitive inhibition. In allosteric inhibition, the inhibitor is binding at a site other than the active site, and changing the enzyme in some way to make it inactive
