The bond formed by the sharing of electrons between two atoms to complete their octet is known as covalent bond. Such compounds formed by covalent bonds are called covalent compounds.
Examples of covalent compounds: Water (H2O), hydrogen (H2), methane (CH4), etc.
Covalent bonding in carbon:
Carbon has 4 valence electrons. It shares those 4 electrons with other atoms (such as H) to complete it's octet.
In methane, carbon shares 4 electrons with 4 H atoms to form the covalent bonds.
