Question

What is critical temperature? How does it affect the liquefaction of gas?

Open in App
Solution

Critical temperature: It is defined as the temperature above which a gas can not be liquified whatever pressure may be applied.

It affects over the liquefaction of gas:

  • An increase in critical temperature results in an increase in the intermolecular force of attraction between molecules.
  • Because of this increase in the intermolecular force of attraction, gas liquefaction will become easy.
