Deformation is the change of structure or shape of an object temporarily or permanently. This usually occurs due to some external forces – physical or chemical. Changes in the surface of the ground is known as ground deformation. This occurs due to underground construction, volcanoes, earthquakes, deep excavation and tunneling etc.

Effects:

1. Loss of vegetation and fertility of soil.
2. Disturbance of ground water table.
3. Distortion of the nearby building may take place.
