What is degraded energy?

The conversion of energy into forms like heat, sound etc., which can't be utilized, is known as degraded of energy. E.g. The burning of fossil fuels produces a lot of heat energy which is lost as heat to the environment. This heat energy is not usable by us as of now and we say that the energy has been degraded.
