  • Democracy is a form of government in which people elect their representatives through free and fair elections.
  • The political party that wins the majority seats in an elections forms the government.
  • Universal adult franchise means every adult citizen aged 18 or above has the right to vote and elect their representatives without any discrimination of caste, race religion, sex, literacy, wealth and so on.
  • Democracy empowers citizens with the freedom to criticise the rules and policies of the government. The citizens can organise peaceful protest rallies or can vote against the government in the next elections.
