Open in App
Solution

Ethyl alcohol mixed with methyl alcohol is called denatured alcohol. In order to make it unfit for drinking purpose the methyl alcohol has been added to ethyl alcohol. Reactions of ethanoic acid: 2CH₃COOH + 2Na → 2 CH₃COONa + H₂↑ 2CH₃COOH + Na₂CO₃ → 2CH₃COONa + CO₂↑ + H₂↑ CH₃COOH + C₂H₅OH → CH₃COOC₂H₅ + H₂O CH₃COOH + Conc.H₂SO₄ → No reaction takes place but only proton transfer takes place from H₂SO₄ to ethanoic acid. This mixture generally used in esterification of reaction.
