Destructive distillation is the process in which an organic substance such as sugar, bone, wood etc. is heated strongly in the absence of air in a closed container.
In this process, wood charcoal and bone charcoal are formed, depending upon the material used.
Charcoal is formed as a residue and carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, methane, and hydrogen gases are also formed.
