What is the difference between conidia and aplanospores?
Conidia: These are non-motile asexual spores found in Fungi.
Aplanopores: These asexual, non-motile spores are found in algae and some fungi.
Conidia | Aplanospores |
1. Conidia are borne on the tips of conidiophores exogenously. | 1. Aplanospores are internally borne in their sporangia. |
2. These conidiophores are specialized structures born on hyphae of certain ascomyecetes and basidiomycetes fungi. | 2. Aplanospores are borne on sporangiophores which is the aerial hypha of zygomycetes fungi. |
3. These are found in Aspergillus and Penicillum. | 3. These are found in green algae like Haematococcus, Chlamydomonas, and in fungi like Rhizopus. |
