What is the difference between DNA and gene?
Gene: A gene is a short section of the DNA or RNA (ribonucleic acid) long-chain molecule.
DNA: DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) is a molecule that contains the genetic instructions of an organism.
DNA | Gene |
1. It's a chemical that stores the genetic information of an organism. | 1. It is a stretch of nucleotide sequences present in the genome (either DNA or RNA) of an organism that encodes for RNA or protein. |
2. Determines many functions like gene regulation. | 2. Determines the genotypic and phenotypic traits of an organism. |
3. It's a long chain polynucleotide. | 3. Genes are short stretches of nucleotides in the genome. |
