What is the difference between dyes and pigment?
Dyes | Pigments |
1. An intensely colored or fluorescent organic substance, which imparts color to a substrate by selective absorption of light. | 1. Colored, black, white, or fluorescent particulate organic or inorganic solids, usually are insoluble in water. |
2. Has a direct affinity to the material, but doesn't require a binding agent. | 2. Essentially physically and chemically unaffected by the substrate in which they are incorporated. |
3. Auxochrome groups are present. | 3. No auxochrome groups are present. |
