What is the difference between mitosis and binary fission?
Asexual reproduction:
Mitosis: It is a form of cell division that mainly occurs in higher-order organisms that are eukaryotes.
Binary fission: It is the form of asexual reproduction predominant in prokaryotes.
Mitosis | Binary fission |
It is a type of cell division by which eukaryotic cells get renewed. For growth and repair in eukaryotes, mitosis is required. | Binary fission is a method of asexual reproduction by which almost all prokaryotes reproduce. |
It is a complex process. | It is a simple process. |
It takes place in four subphases,i.e. prophase, anaphase, metaphase, and telophase. | It does not occur in phases. |
In this process, chromosomes get replicated. | In the case of binary fission DNA gets replicated. |
