Question

what is difference between molar conductivity and electrical conductivity

Open in App
Solution

The molar conductance is defined as the conductance of all the ions produced by ionization of 1 g mole of an electrolyte when present in V mL of solution. It is denoted by μ . Molar conductance =κ × VWhere V is the volume in mL containing 1 g mole of the electrolyte. If c is the concentration of the solution in g mole per litre, thenμ = κ × 100 cIts unit are ohm 1 cm2 mol1 Electrical conductivity is nothing but specific conductance. The reciprocal of specific resistance is termed the specific conductance or it is the conductance of one centimeter cube of a conductor. It is denoted by the symbol κ . Thus,κ = 1ρWhere κ is called specific conductance.
