What is diffraction?

Diffraction of light is the phenomenon of bending of light ray at the sharp edge of the obstacle placed in its path. Because of diffraction of light due to a single slit, a central bright spot is formed at the center of the screen and the intensity of light decreases as the distance from the center increases.
