Open in App
Solution

Dear Student,

Dichogamy is a phenomenon of maturation of male and female reproductive parts (stamens and carpels) of the same flowers occurs at the different time. It is of two types as given below:
a) Protandry: The male reproductive part matures earlier than carpels.
b) Protogyny: The female reproductive part matures earlier than anthers.

As the pollen grains shed before or after than the maturation of the respective reproductive parts on the same plant,
hence, it prevents self-fertilization and ensures cross-pollination
