Divergent evolutionis the process by which interbreeding species get diverged into two or more descended species.
Divergent evolution describes how various functional components evolved from a common ancestor.
In divergent evolution, the same basic organ becomes adapted by specialization to perform different functions, in order to adapt to the different environmental conditions, prevailing in the habitat.
Example- Darwin's finches of Galapagos islands had common ancestors. The common ancestral form was an eater finch. Later, their beaks evolved according to their feeding habit.
