Definition: 1 Mark
Occurrence: 2 Mark
Drought is considered as a deficiency in rainfall or precipitation over an extended period, usually a season or more, resulting in a water shortage causing adverse impacts on vegetation, animals and people.
If it does not rain for a longer period of time then (1) the water level in rivers, lakes and ponds go down, some of them may even dry up. (2) The groundwater also becomes scarce and drops drastically. This may lead to drought.
