Open in App
Solution

Heartwood:

  1. It is also called duramen. It is the middle dark-colored wood, developed after several years of secondary growth of the stem of the dicots.
  2. It is developed in the trees as they grow old due to the inactivation of the central axis of the secondary xylem.
  3. The color of heartwood darkens due to the loss of water and deposition of tannins and other substances that provide it with a characteristic aroma.
