Dear Student,
Electromagnetic radiation is a form of energy that is produced by oscillating electric and magnetic disturbance, or by the movement of electrically charged particles travelling through a vacuum or matter.
Electromagnetic (EM) radiation is a form of energy that is all around us and takes many forms, such as radio waves, microwaves, X-rays and gamma rays. Sunlight is also a form of EM energy, but visible light is only a small portion of the EM spectrum, which contains a broad range of electromagnetic wavelengths.
Electromagnetic means that when a conductor contain the interrelation of electric current and magnetic field. When electric current passes through a conductor it produces a magnetic field around it. It acts as a temporary magnet hence it is called an electromagnet.
