Solution

Endocytosis [Endo means within and cytosis means cell] is a process in which a substance gains entry into a cell without passing through the cell membrane. This process is classified to three types : Pinocytosis, Phagocytosis and receptor mediated endocytosis.

Pinocytosis : In the process of pinocytosis, the plasma membrane forms an invagination. Whatever substance is found within the area of invagination is brought into the cell. And this process is also known as Cellular drinking.

Phagocytosis : Phagocytosis is a form of endocytosis. In the process of phagocytosis, the cell changes shape by sending out projections which are called psuedopodia or false feet. Also this is known as Cell eating.

And the examples of endocytosis are the leukocytes, neutrophils and monocytes which engulf the foreign particles such as bacteria, etc. And the Metabolism of Cholestrol is a best example for receptor mediated endocytosis.
