Question

What is equilibrium mean?

Open in App
Solution

  1. Chemical equilibrium is the state when no further change in the reaction is observed.
  2. Equilibrium is the state of the reaction where the concentration of the reactant molecules is equal to the concentration of the product molecules.
  3. The equilibrium does not depend upon the phase, it can be achieved with the same phase of reactant and product as well as in different phases.
  4. Equilibrium depends upon the temperature, pressure, catalyst used, phases, and also inert gas used.
  5. Equilibrium is the continuous change in the reactant and product even after it is achieved and so it is not a static process but dynamic.
  6. Uses: It can be used in many industrial processes such as the Haber process for the production of Ammonia(NH3), and the Contact process for the production of Sulphuric acid(H2SO4).
  7. The chemical reaction related to equilibrium is represented as: N2g+O2g2NOg
  8. The chemical reaction is a type of homogeneous reaction because the reactants and products both are in same state.
