Aneuploidy:

  1. It involves the addition or deletion of one or a few chromosomes from the usual diploid set of chromosomes.
  2. This occurs when two homologous chromosomes of a particular pair or two sister chromatids fail to separate in meiosis-I and meiosis-II respectively.
  3. This is called nondisjunction, and it results in that one gamete receiving both the chromosomes of a pair and the other gamete is left without that particular chromosome.

Female aneuploidy refers to a condition in which the fetus has one or more chromosomes more or less than the normal number of chromosomes.

  1. Turner syndrome is a genetic disorder in females, it is due to the partial or complete loss of one of the X chromosomes.
  2. Turner syndrome is also known as monosomy of the X chromosome.
  3. Turner syndrome leads to various developmental problems and people with Turner syndrome are at risk of many diseases.
  4. Turner syndrome causes retarded sexual development in females. They are mostly sterile with short stature and webbing of the skin in the neck region is present.
  5. Apart from these, there may be cardiac abnormalities, hearing impairment, vision loss, etc. may be present in a person with Turner Syndrome.
