Forked branching is another name for Dichotomous branching, a primordial kind of branching, which is a distinctive feature of liverworts such as Pellia, Riccia and Marchantia.
In liverworts, the thallus is flat, dorsiventral, and dichotomously branching. At the front, there is a notch. At the bottom of the notch, there is a developing point made up of a single apical cell. It separates into two equal-sized branches on a regular basis.
