Some functions of roots are:

1. Absorption of water and minerals from the soil

2. Providing anchorage and support to the plants.

3. Sometimes additional functions like storage of reserve food like in carrot, radish etc.

4. Sometimes in respiration like pnematophores in mangrove trees.
