Solution

Sporophyte is the phase in life cycle of plants which is diploid (means cells contain two sets of chromosomes). Sporophyte produces haploid spores through meiosis. Spores germinate to produce haploid gametophyte.

Gametophyte is the multicellular haploid phase in the life cycle of plants. It produces male and female gametes by mitosis. These gametes fuse to form zygote that develops into sporophyte.
