Genetically modified organisms are prepared by recombinant DNA technology. The food derived from GMO crops needs to be tested and approved before entering the commercial market. The testing and appraisal committee in India is GEAC. GEAC stands for Genetic Engineering Approval Committee. The committee have set certain rules and guidelines for the approval of GMO.
Objectives of GEAC:
  • To test the GMO products before release in the market.
  • To control the use of the GMO crops in fields without harm to the environment.
