Tropism:

  1. The growth or response of plants or lower animals towards or away from a stimulus is known as tropism.
  2. There are six types of tropism thigmotropism, phototropism, geotropism, thermotropism, chemotropism and hydrotropism.

Geotropism:

  1. The movement of plant or plant parts in response to gravity is called geotropism.
  2. It is due to the presence of the plant hormone auxin.
  3. There are two types of geotropic movement positive geotropism and negative geotropism.
  4. If the plant parts move towards the gravitational force, it is known as positive geotropism. For example, roots exhibit positive geotropism.
  5. If the plant parts move away from the gravitational force, it is known as positive geotropism. For example, the stem exhibits negative geotropism.
