Dear Student,
The glass you encounter most often is silicate glass, which consists mainly of silica or silicon dioxide, SiO2. This is the type of glass you find in windows and drinking glasses. The crystalline form of this mineral is quartz. When the solid material is non-crystalline, it is a glass.
Glass is generally safer than plastic when it comes to food storage. You can heat and re-heat glass containers over and over without worrying about any chemical leeching into your food, and they're more durable, so your containers won't be dyed or smell like food residue after a while of use , whereas plastic container releases toxic chemical which is harmful for the stored food in it.
Once you buy a glass storage container you can use it almost indefinitely.
