Solution

Global warming

Global warming is the rise in the average temperature of the atmosphere of the earth due to the increase in the greenhouse effect.

Effects of global warming

  1. Temperature near the ocean surface would increase and will also cause glaciers and polar ice sheets to melt faster.
  2. Due to the increase in temperature, the glaciers in the polar region melt fastly, due to to which the ocean water level increases.
  3. This would flood the low-lying coastal areas and a number of islands will be submerged.
  4. Due to the increased water level, the chances of flood in the coastal area increase. This impacts many lives living in that area.
  5. Global warming adversely affects the monsoon rains and also brings about changes in the seasonal pattern.
