Goitre:
Goitre is a condition in which the thyroid gland (present attached to the trachea) becomes enlarged or undergoes inflammation.
This disorder occurs when there is a deficiency of iodine which is essential for producing the thyroxine hormone.
If the secretion of thyroxine hormone is low, it leads to the enlargement of the thyroid gland, i.e. goitre.
