Open in App
Solution

1. The gram atomic mass of an element can be defined as the mass of one mole of atoms of a particular element.

2. It is numerically equivalent to the value of the element’s atomic mass unit but has its unit in grams.
3. If we take the example of carbon, its atomic mass is 12u.

we know that, Numberofmoles=GivenmassAtomicmass

As, we the gram atomic mass is the mass of 1 mole of substance, hence number of moles is 1.

1=Givenmass12

Givenmass=12g

4. Now, this mass is known as gram atomic mass which is 12g.
