Question

What is the half deflection method?

Open in App
Solution

Half-deflection method:

  1. The half deflection technique is a way of analyzing a cell's internal resistance to aid in determining a high-value resistance.
  2. The deflection of half would be regarded as a value received only from the cell.
  3. A high resistance box is typically connected with the battery in order to bring the deflection of the galvanometer within the scale.

Mathematically, internal resistance can be represented as:

e=I(r+R)

Here,

e is the electromotive force (volts).

I is the current (A).

R is the load resistance.

r is the internal resistance of the cell measured in ohms.

Therefore, the half deflection technique is used to calculate a galvanometer's resistance.
