Question

What is hybridization?

Open in App
Solution

In chemistry, hybridization (or hybridization) is the concept of mixing atomic orbitals into new hybrid orbitals (with different energies, shapes, etc., to the component atomic orbitals) suitable for the pairing of electrons to form chemical bonds in valence bond theory.

Hybridization helps to explain molecule shape since the angles between bonds are (approximately) equal to the angles between hybrid orbitals.
