The pH scale is the scale that defines the acidic or basic strength of the solution. pH ranges from 1-to 14.
The pH is the negative log of hydrogen ions concentration.
Types of solution on basis of pH value
The pH ranges from 0 to 14 where 7 is neutral and below 7 it is acidic and above which it is basic.
So, pH defines the strength of the solution whether it is acidic, basic, or neutral.
pH value of Hydrochloric acid -
Hydrochloric acid () is a strong acid and is a major component of gastric acid for the digestion of humans and most animals.
Hydrochloric acid is also known as muriatic acid.
It is a colorless solution with a pungent smell.
It is used as an acidifying agent.
It is a strong acid so its pH will be less than 7.
Its pH ranges from 1.5 to 3.5.
Temperature effect on pH-
An increase in temperature also increases the molecular vibration of concentration of ion for this decreases the tendency to forming hydrogen bonds, thus leading to a reduction in pH.
