Hygroscopy-

  • It is a process in which water is absorbed from the air but it is not enough to change the state of the substance. The substance which follows this process is called a hygroscopic substance.
  • In other words, the substance is able to consistently attract water from its surroundings via adsorption or absorption

Examples-

  • Calcium oxide CaO
  • Calcium chloride CaCl2
  • Sodium sulphate Na2SO4 etc.
