The correct option is
D It is caused by secretion of serotonin chemicals
Ringworm is a very common skin infection caused by fungi and not by helminths. It can be caused by three different kinds of fungi :
Microsporum
Trichophyton
Epidermophyton
The infection initially appears as red patches on the affected areas that spreads to different areas of the body affecting scalp, nails, feet, groin and beard.
Constant itching results in these lesions getting worse.
The fungus grows well in moist environments like showers, bathroom floors and walls, swimming pools and between the skin folds (because of less space for the moisture to dry fast).
Ringworm can be transmitted by the following ways:
- By skin contact with an infected person.
- From pets and cows.
- Sharing clothes, comb, towels and brushes with the infected person
- Contact with soil contaminated with spores.
Serotonin is secreted by basophils, a type of white blood cell. It is associated with inflammatory reactions and does not cause ringworm.
