Inertia is that property of a body which causes it to remain in it's state of motion in a straight line, or spin or rest, until or unless some external force is applied on it. Inertia is present due to mass.
We know that moment of inertia (I) is given as
I = mr^2
here 'm' is the mass and 'r' is the radius.
so, the moment of inertia depends upon
(a) the location of the axis of rotation and
(b) the distribution of mass inside the body
