What is interconversion of states of matter? Answer in short.
Interconversion of states of matter - It involves the various processes through which the matter is converted from one state to another.
The processes can be summarised as follows:
1. Sublimation - The process of conversion of solids directly into a gas without the formation of a liquid intermediate.
For example- camphor vaporises easily upon heating.
2. Condensation - The process by which gases get converted into liquids upon cooling.
For example - water vapour is condensed to form water droplets.
3. Freezing - The process of conversion of liquids into solid by cooling the liquid is called freezing.
For example - water freezes to form ice.
4. Deposition - The process by which gases when cooled forms a solid substance is called deposition.
For example - water vapour when cooled enough directly forms frost.
5. Melting - The process of conversion of solids into liquid by the action of heat is called melting.
For example - solid ice upon heating forms liquid water.
6. Evaporation - The process by which liquids get converted into gases by heating is called evaporation.
For example - water gets evaporated from water bodies like lakes and ponds.
