Question

What is it called when water moves against gravity?

Open in App
Solution

Transpiration Pull:

  1. The ability of molecules of water to remain linked causes more water molecules to be drawn up as water is removed from the leaf surface via transpiration, resulting in a persistent column of water through the stem, which is known as transpiration pull.
  2. A transpiration pull can be easily based on the biological mechanism in which a pulling force is generated within the xylem tissue.
  3. The upward movement of water into the xylem is aided by this force. The water loss in form of vapors via the leaves is noted.
  4. Capillarity, also known as capillary action, is the ability of a liquid to move against gravity in small spaces (thin tubes).
  5. This occurs without the use of any external support, such as gravity.
