  1. An Intrauterine device, often known as an IUD or a coil, is a small, T-shaped birth control device that is put into the uterus to prevent pregnancy.
  2. IUDs are a type of reversible long-acting birth control. They aren't effective in preventing Sexually Transmitted Illnesses (STIs).
  3. It prevents the sperm to reaching the ova or egg. The insertion of such devices are painful and costly.
