  • The amount of heat that is required for a phase change of a unit mass of a substance without any change in temperature is known as latent heat.

Latent heat of ice:

  • During melting, the ice takes up latent heat that is required to change the phase of ice from solid to liquid phase.
  • A total of 334J of energy is required to liquefy 1g of ice at 0°C which is called the latent heat of melting.
