Question

What is limitation of ohm's law ? What is drift velocity ?

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student,

Limitations of ohm's law are:
  • Ohm's law is applicable for a constant temperature, that is if temperature changes, ohm's law is not valid.
  • Not applicable on non-metallic conductors.
  • Not applicable for non-linear devices like diodes etc.
When a potential difference is applied across a conductor, then an electric field is established due to which every free electron acquires a definite velocity in a particular direction, this is known as drift velocity.
