Macula Lutea:
- On the posterior pole of the eye, lateral to the blind spot, there is a yellowish pigmented region.
- This part of the eye is referred to as the macula lutea.
- The macula is the area in the human eye where the structures at the front of the eye focus light (cornea & lens) on it. It takes the image and sends it to the brain, which completes vision.
Function of Macula Lutea:
- The macula's primary job is to give crisp, clear, and straight-ahead vision.
- It is in charge of our whole centre vision as well as the majority of our colour vision.
- The macula is responsible for the tiny detail we see.
- Diseases of the macula, such as macular degeneration, cause loss of central vision since it is responsible for our centre vision.
