Selection is the process of choosing an individual from a large population to get desirable traits in plant breeding
Mass selection:
- Mass selection is the process in which the individuals are selected from a mixed population based on the phenotype
- The next generation is grown by bulking the selected seeds
- After 5 to 6 years of continuous selection, the selected seeds are multiplied and distributed
- Mass selection is the oldest method of crop improvement
- It can be of two types that are positive mass selection and negative mass selection
