An alkane is made up of hydrogen and carbon atoms that are arranged in a tree structure with a single Carbon-Carbon(C-C) bond.

An alkyl group is formed by removing a Hydrogen atom in an alkane molecule.

An alkyl group is named by replacing -ane in the alkane molecule with the suffix -yl.

Some of the examples of alkyl groups are

Methyl(-CH3), Ethyl(-CH2CH3) , etc.
