Question

What is meant by charging a body? Describe charging by conduction and charging by induction.

Solution

  1. Every substance is neutral. They become charged when there is an imbalance between the number of electrons and protons. when electrons are in abundance then the body is negatively charged and when electrons are less, then it becomes positively charged.
  2. Charging by conduction- When a charged body is kept in contact with the other neutral one then electrons flow from the high concentration to the lower. This is charging by conduction.
  3. Charging by induction- when a neutral body is kept in the vicinity of a charged body then charged particles in the charged body will attract the oppositely charged ions present in the neutral body. This process is called induction.
