Cistron:

  1. Cistron are the smallest unit of genetic material which coded for a single polypeptide for the transmission of genetic information.
  2. Cistron are present in the DNA of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells.
  3. The gene is a nucleotide sequence responsible for the synthesis of RNA molecules whereas cistron is a nucleotide sequence responsible for the synthesis of polypeptide sequence of a functional protein.
  4. The cistron are essentially similar to the structure of DNA which is equivalent to a gene.
