when we divide a number or polynomial by another number or polynomial then the relation Divident $=$ divisor $\times$ Quotient $+$ Remainder is always satisfied

This is known as division algorithm

e.g If we divide polynomial $2x^2+3x+1$ by polynomial $x+2$

then we get

Divident $2x^2+3x+1$

Divisor $=x+2$

Quotient $=2x-1$

Remainder $=3$

Now, Divisor $\times$ Quotient $+$ Remainder

$\left(x+2\right)\left(2x-1\right)+3$

$=2x^2-x+4x-2+3$

$=2x^2+3x+1$

$=$ Dividend
