What is meant by the Indian Standard Time? Why do we need a Standard Meridian for India?
Indian Standard Time is the time observed throughout India.
A standard meridian is established in each and every country so that it is the central longitude of the whole country and there is an equal time in the entire country. The Standard Meridian of India having the longitude 82°30’E, which passes through Mirzapur in Uttar Pradesh is considered as the standard time for the whole country.
To avoid time gap of two hours between the eastern and western part of
India, which may create confusion in working, it is essential to have a Standard Meridian.
